What lessons did you learn from High School?

I learned that it was okay to try new things. I joined as many sports teams and clubs as I could to get a feel for what I was passionate about. That led me to gaining my lifelong friends that I have today!

What do you wish you had done in High School before coming to college?

I wish that I had tried to get into AP classes and to join after school programs that teach me life skills like they do at Pi515. I think that if I did that then I would have been able to be a little ahead of my peers in college. I also wish that I applied myself more in class to help form a better routine and mindset.

Advice for students going into college?

"You'll grow wherever you're planted" I was told this by my high school English teacher when I was in high school when we were all struggling to pick a college to go to and I truly believe that the statement is true. As long as you get involved with what you are passionate about then there's going to be no regrets during your college experience. Go out there and enjoy it because just like high school it'll go by in a blink of an eye.

Why did you choose Pi515?

I chose Pi515 because at Drake I had the pleasure of working with 3 different non profit organizations in the Des Moines area and wanted to experience a more in depth look into what makes a non profit work. I also wanted to find an internship that I knew was benefitting its surrounding communities. In the future I hope to work for a company or organization that has the same impact as Pi515 does on its community.

How has interning with Pi515 impacted your life?

While interning at Pi515 I have learned to be adaptable and that there is always something to do. I learned how to be more adaptable with scheduling and planning because in the real world things pop up and it's up to you to figure out how to fix it before an event. Then I learned that there is always something to do because with working in an organization there are events being planned months in advance. Tying that with being adaptable things come up and there's always something to do to plan ahead.

What is your favorite coding language?

I have never learned coding but from what I have seen from our programs I think I would like python. The volunteers explain the program so well every time I attend class so I feel like I'm learning more and more everyday with the kids.

If you could teach coding skills to anyone (even a famous figure), who would it be and what would you teach?

Post Malone. I think it'd be funny since both of us (I'm assuming) don't know anything about coding and it would just be a fun time.

Plans after graduation?

I hope to work for a company or organization that helps the community they are in like Pi515. I have really enjoyed seeing the impact that this organization has provided for Des Moines and I can only hope to create an impact like this in my future!
