A graduates journey

My name is Ealaf Adam. I am 18 years old, born January 20. I currently serve as a Pi515 intern and can probably say that it takes so much pride in saying so. I graduated high school this spring as a graduate of the class 2023. This journey came with its fair share of obstacles to say the least. I thought the high school would be a breeze for me or more the idea of life but like life does, it’ll test you. I endured event that made me question my placement in the world, if was just unlucky, or undeserving of good things. In this emotional testament, I learned that obstacles don’t occur to us because we’re bad people, they occur to us to make us better people, stronger people, above all people worth knowing.

Finding a community

One thing I learned throughout high school, especially working with Pi515 is that you have a network of people who love and want to see you grow regardless of where you go. If you find people who believe in you, or like for me, someone like Nancy, who instills hopes and dreams within you, and even broadly stated youth, then you will find yourself be someone who carries impact. You will also find yourself to be someone who carries the dreams and hopes of others along with your own within you.

Support from within

“You are a beacon of light and legacy”, that is the greatest thing I reminded myself throughout all of high school, because, even if I felt as though I didn’t hear it enough from others, I felt it strong enough within myself. Ultimately strong support system, a life story, and perseverance is what allowed me, and gives me the privilege to say that I am attending the university of Chicago on a full ride scholarship this fall.
